Challenges & Objectives
The French nuclear industry has been working to digitise its operations and the tools required for its modernisation since the 1990s. This digital transformation has recently gathered pace and is having an impact on all stakeholders in the sector.
The family-run company SEGAULT, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2021, had already structured its design solutions, but a new phase was needed to improve efficiency and streamline operations in order to remain a key and recognised player in this market both in France and internationally.
The challenges
The company’s objectives are always driven by the need to ensure the reliability of current and future design work whilst safeguarding the integrity of existing deliverables:
- The need to transition to 100% digital operations to support a socially responsible approach by digitising drawings and implementing an automated document validation workflow strategy to enhance security and efficiency.
- Better control of product configurations alongside the associated documentation to better track the evolution of future products.
- Ensuring the recovery of existing data and the migration of 2D and 3D drawings and metadata—SEGAULT’s true intellectual capital—to ensure the digital continuity of projects.
Objectives
The wide range of high-quality valves and fittings manufactured by SEGAULT (over 3,000 per year), ranging from small instrumentation valves (4 mm diameter) to shut-off valves, safety valves, non-return valves, solenoid valves and valves with a diameter of 100 mm, makes project tracking complex and necessitates the rationalisation of product ranges.
The design and product lifecycle is complex and increasingly lengthy, requiring:
- Increasing traceability and flexibility in change management,
- As well as an instant overview of the differences between two products.
DV DIGITAL Solution
To support SEGAULT in its digital transformation, DV DIGITAL has deployed and integrated the Siemens digital suite to ensure seamless digital continuity for design and project work:
- Design: NX
- Simulation: Simcenter
- Management and control: Teamcenter®
Thanks to DV DIGITAL’s expertise, SEGAULT’s teams were able to migrate existing drawings, structure workflows, and make data quickly accessible and usable.
Customer benefits and gains
- 50% reduction in time spent on the early design phase (from 6 months to 3 months) thanks to NX + Simcenter digital continuity
- Maximum design flexibility (traditional, hybrid, synchronous) tailored to the specific requirements of the nuclear industry
- Acceleration of engineering cycles and technical decision-making
- 4× faster access to information via Teamcenter (search, data, documents, projects)
- Improved productivity of design teams
- Optimisation of project processes through the implementation of structured digital workflows
- Reliability and structuring of historical data thanks to migration and PLM
- Rapid adoption of tools by teams thanks to user-friendly design and support
- Structured management of digitalisation (objectives, risks, opportunities, controlled obstacles)
- Increased operational agility in the management of industrial projects
- Securing digital transformation with a single industrial and technological partner
