Challenges & Objectives
For several years now, Chantiers de l’Atlantique has been undertaking a major overhaul of its design tools, network integration processes, and ship hull construction, as well as more mechanical disciplines, such as electrical engineering.
Soon, the overhaul will also extend to the designers of the ships’ interior fittings.
As part of this new initiative, launched by the Director of Information Systems, a process is underway to roll out a single CAD solution for cabin design and for the mechanical division.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique has two main objectives:
- To improve and accelerate innovation and digitalisation processes in order to build a seamless digital workflow that promotes quality
- To standardise design and industrialisation operations in order to optimise costs by reducing duplicate data entry
DV DIGITAL solution
With this in mind, the decision was made to implement the Solid Edge® CAD solution from Siemens Digital Industries Software, supported by the expertise of the systems integrator DV DIGITAL, to replace SolidWorks® and Microstation®.
Innovation Strategy
Future innovation initiatives will draw on DV DIGITAL’s expertise, with a view to extending this partnership to the field of ship accommodation design.
“Indeed, always with a view to adhering to our IT strategy, we need to digitise areas that may be similar to what we have achieved for our cabins, such as the technical spaces that must be integrated into our ships and provide interfaces with the environment.”
Gwenael ENET
Head of the Cabin Technical Sector – Chantiers de l’Atlantique
Data migration
To successfully complete this project, the IT and business teams called upon DV DIGITAL, a long-standing partner of Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique was not simply looking for an integrator, but also for resources capable of taking charge of a project on behalf of the IT department – a first for the company, and one that proved to be a success.
The DV DIGITAL experts assigned to the project were deeply involved in the tasks entrusted to them, keen to understand and address genuine industrial needs, and proactive in putting forward solutions backed by solid technical and functional expertise.
DV DIGITAL quickly rose to several challenges and established its credibility by demonstrating early on in the project that its application engineers understood the business issues.
Building on this credibility, it was easier to engage the teams responsible for the design and industrialisation of the cabins.
Due to the nature of the project, it was necessary to align with the IT department’s processes and coordinate with the in-house technical teams, which is unusual for Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
